BLACKBERRY LOYALIST: President Obama finally lets go of his BlackBerry

BlackBerry was loved for its smartphones that offered the tactile hardware QWERTY keyboard and the infamous BlackBerry Messenger which helped make it a trend setter. The youth took to it, while the US Government preferred it thanks to the state-of-the-art security and enterprise solutions, making it one of the hottest selling mobile phones.
However, times have changed and BlackBerry is no longer the smartphone everyone wants. While the company is still around, it has certainly lost its charm.
Interestingly, when President Obama entered office, he was a ‘BlackBerry Boy’ and was using it until recently when he confirmed that he’s ditched his BlackBerry for a new device. While he hasn’t confirmed exactly which smartphone he is using, but at a recent appearance on a talk show, he spoke about how he was given a new smartphone this year.
Obama had entered office in 2009 as a “high-tech president” with his BlackBerry and at that time, BlackBerry maker RIM (Research In Motion) was making good money. The coming years saw the development of Android and Apple coming in with iPhone, but Obama stuck to his BlackBerry for obvious security reasons.
At the talk show, Obama told Jimmy Fallon, “I was the first president to have a BlackBerry, and so years passed and no one else has BlackBerrys. Then finally this year they said ‘Good news Mr. President, we’re going to give you a state-of-the-art smartphone instead of a BlackBerry.’ I thought, alright, this is cool I’m excited, and I get the thing and they’re like, Mr. President, for security reasons it doesn’t take pictures, you can’t text, the phone doesn’t work, you can’t play your music on it.”
What do you think Obama has been given? Android or iOS?

How to open desktop versions of websites on iPhone

Nearly all websites these days have a responsive layout. They also come with separate 'mobile' versions that are automatically loaded when websites are accessed via smartphones. However, mobile versions of websites are optimized for speed and don't show the same amount of information as their desktop counterparts.

If you're using an iPhone , there's help. Thanks to a built-in iOS feature, it's really easy to open desktop (or full) versions of websites on iPhone. Here's a step-by-step procedure to do i.

Step 1: Open up the website whose full version you want to access in iPhone's browser , as you always do. As expected, this will load the mobile version of the website. Now, tap the Share button.

Step 2: This will bring up numerous sharing options (e.g. Facebook , Twitter ) for the website. Now, tap on the Request Desktop Site button.
That's it. The browser will now load the 'desktop' version of the website. This tip works for almost all websites.

How To Recover Data From Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +

Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are released in recent days. It no wonder that Samsung is entering into rivalry with Apple over cellphones. This Samsung series is of novel design and excellent user experience.

It is surely amazing to own this new stunner, but remember to take care of it while using. Anyway, electronic products like cellphones get broken easily. Once it is damaged, it may leave you a lot of troubles. And when the phone goes old, you may encounter the unpleasantness too. Take an example of data loss. Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are not immune.

Here you can see the most common ways people lose important data on their phone.

1.There are many people who use a SD card to extend the memory of cellphone. But the thing is that SD cards get corrupted easier than the internal space. So the data stored on the SD card is more likely to get damaged than that on the internal space. And the main reason that causes the SD card to corrupt is the virus, which is not easy to remove.
2.A corrupt software can also be the reason why you lose your important data. There are various apps on the phone asking to get access to the sensitive personal data like messages and contacts. So be careful when you show your authorization to these apps.
3.The update is also on the list of attention sometimes. Have you ever fail to install an application with the update packages download? Yes, you may find that the malfunctions happen on your phone, and at this time, some of the important data get damaged.
The data files on our phones are all important with personal information or work details. For instance, we use messages to communicate with others everyday, so the last time you want to see is that you lost your messages with important information & you will find it hard to get them back. And to create backup files does work to a certain degree. However, most of people have no ideas about how to recover their lost data. In this case, you can read on this article and then you will become able to do data recovery by yourself.

How to Recover Lost Data from Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge

To recover data from Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, you need a third party Samsung Recovery tool, and I am a big fan of Dr.Fone for Android, which is a nice recovery software. My phone is a HUAWEI one, and it is supported by Dr.Fone for Android. According to the official introduction, Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are supported, too.

Main Features of Dr.Fone for Android

1.The interface of it is friendly and intuitive, so that you can learn to use it soon after you pick it up. And there is guidance provided.
2.You can recover the lost data from Galaxy S6 Edge / S6 as long as they are not overwritten.
3.You can save the recoverable data to your computer directly.
4.This application also helps you fix your phone.
5.You can preview any and every data file you plan to recover.
6.All the data can be recovered from Galaxy S6 Edge including messages, contacts, photos, WhatsApp messages, videos, music, documents, etc. And all of them can lost because of corrupt software, factory reset, phone crash or damage and ROM flashing.

The 3 biggest ways self-driving cars will improve our lives

Driverless cars will be here before you know it.
Several automakers have already showed off their self-driving car technology and many car companies aim to roll out production vehicles with driverless capabilities by 2020. Industry experts expect fully autonomous vehicles to follow suit just a few years later.
This era of driverless cars will transform our lives in more ways than one, Erik Coelingh, Volvo’s Senior Technical Leader for Safety and Driver Support Technologies, told Tech Insider.
While it’s still too early to know all of the ways autonomous vehicles will impact our lives, Coelingh, who is helping lead Volvo’s driverless car program, said he does foresee self-driving cars bringing more advantages than disadvantages.
Here are three key ways Coelingh said autonomous vehicles will improve our lives.

Roads will be safer.

In the US, more than 30,000 people die in traffic-related deaths every years. But self-driving cars could drastically reduce the number of accidents helping to save thousands of lives.
“There’s huge, huge potential in making traffic safer than it is today,” Coelingh said. “That is one of the big reasons for us that we entered this field.”
In fact, if about 90% of cars on American roads were autonomous, the number of accidents would fall from 6 million a year to 1.3 million. Deaths would fall from 33,000 to 11,300, according to a study by the Eno Centre for Transportation

Traffic and fuel efficiency will greatly improve.

Self-driving cars will make driving more efficient on all fronts, Coelingh said.
“There’s potential in efficiency, efficiency in terms of better traffic flow, but also less fuel consumption,” Coelingh said.
Because cars will be automated, there will be less chance of accidents caused by human error, leading to less traffic congestion. It’s also expected that the rise of self-driving taxis will help decrease the total number of cars on the road, alleviating the overall traffic.
What’s more, because driverless vehicles are designed to optimize efficiency in acceleration and braking, they will also help improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.
In fact, adoption of autonomous cars could reduce CO2 emissions produced by cars by as much as 300 million tons per year, according to McKinsey.

You will have more free time.

With cars doing most or all of the driving, you will be free to make the most of your time spent in the vehicle, Coelingh said.
And because traffic congestion is also expected to decrease, it will likely take you less time to get to your destination, which will also help create more valuable time for other things besides commuting.
"You as a driver, you can get back your own time," Coelingh said. "And you can use it in a better way than just staring at the car in front of you,"
According to McKinsey, commuters worldwide could save a combined 1 billion hours everyday once autonomous vehicles go mainstream.

Facebook vs Google+: Mark Zuckerberg on a mission to destroy Google’s social network

Facebook is the biggest and most successful social network today. But, back in 2011, for a relatively newer company like Facebook, prepping to face a competitor like Google could have been worrisome. Mark Zuckerberg knew what was ahead, and decided to leave no stone unturned to crush the then upcoming Google Plus. No one knew of the fate of Google Plus or Facebook then. But, Zuckerberg made it a mission to destroy the Google’s social network no matter what the cost, reveals an ex-Facebook employee.
Yes, there’s a new tell-all book – Chaos Monkeys: Obscene Fortune and Random Failure in Silicon Valley – by an ex-Facebook employee named Antonio Garcia Martinez, giving us (via Vanity Fair) some of the inside tales of the shiny Zuckerberg empire. He said the moment GooglePlus was launched, Zuckerberg couldn’t think of anything but destroying it, and to such a great extent that the social network went into a lockdown state. “Lockdown was a state of war that dated to Facebook’s earliest days, when no one could leave the building while the company confronted some threat, either competitive or technical,” Martinez explained in his book.
Zuckerberg also gave his first ‘lockdown’ speech the day Google Plus was launched, which clearly stated Rthe phrase ‘Carthago delenda est.  It meant Carthage (Google in this case) must be destroyed. Posters were put across the campus to remind employees of the mission.
By then, it was a full blown war. Google didn’t see Facebook as threat, and thought its search monopoly will help it wade through it. The company launched Google Plus! While most of us found those forceful Google Plus sign-ups annoying, Facebook saw it as one of the biggest threats, and it were. There were other factors working for Google Plus too. For instance, it had no ads. “This was the classic one-hand-washing-the-other tactic of the ruthless monopolist, like Microsoft using the revenue from Windows to crush Netscape Navigator with Explorer back in the 90s. By owning search, Google would bankroll taking over social media as well,” Martinez said.
“Zuck took it as an existential threat comparable to the Soviets’ placing nukes in Cuba in 1962. Google Plus was the great enemy’s sally into our own hemisphere, and it gripped Zuck like nothing else,” Martinez writes.
Meanwhile, the lockdown went into action with cafes opened on weekends, shuttles running between Palo Alto and San Francisco on weekends, and Facebook turned into a seven days working company with a little concession of seeing your family on weekends. “By whatever means, employees were expected to be in and on duty. In what was perceived as a kindly concession to the few employees with families, it was also announced that families were welcome to visit on weekends and eat in the cafés, allowing the children to at least see Daddy (and, yes, it was mostly Daddy) on weekend afternoons,” writes Martinez.
On the Google Plus launch day, the author noticed an Ads product manager named Paul Adams with Zuckerberg. Adams was earlier a product designer for Google Plus, and with the launch of the product, no longer tied to a non-disclosure agreement with Google. On the other hand, Google had a policy wherein it would beat any Facebook offer.
Soon Vic Gundotra, the man ‘responsible’ for Google Plus  spoke about great numbers, which were taken serious earlier, but soon it was released that Google took into account any click on the Google Plus, which was mandatory tied to its other products. Gundotra never acknowledged Facebook and reportedly even said “Networks are for networking. Circles are for the right people.” Obviously referring to Google Circles.
Soon Gundotra’s exit hit headlines, and report of Google diverting Google Plus teams to Android started making news. That was a sign of relief for Facebook, and they knew they had won the war.
“I decided to do some reconnaissance. En route to work one Sunday morning, I skipped the Palo Alto exit on the 101 and got off in Mountain View instead. Down Shoreline I went and into the sprawling Google campus. I made my way there and contemplated the parking lot. It was empty. Completely empty. I got back on the 101 North and drove to Facebook. At the California Avenue building, I had to hunt for a parking spot. The lot was full. It was clear which company was fighting to the death,” writes Martinez.

Samsung's bendable smartphones might become real in early 2017

Samsung has been toying with the idea of bendable (or is it foldable? who knows) phones since 2008, when it showed a prototype device sporting a folding OLED display at the Society for Information Display (SID) exhibition.
Now, according to a report by Bloomberg, Samsung might actually be getting ready to launch not one, but two bendable smartphones, as soon as early 2017

The report, which cites the ubiquitous "people familiar with the matter," says both devices will sport OLED screens. The details are somewhat rough, but from what we can gather, one device will be a phone/tablet combo, whose 5-inch screen could be unfolded into an 8-inch screen. The other will be a phone that folds in half, not unlike a cosmetic compact (so, basically a flip phone but with a screen on both sides).
Samsung certainly has the tech to do it. In 2014, the company released a video of a concept phone that folds into a tablet (and, somewhat inexplicably, automatically makes one a hit with the ladies).

And the company has shown functional, thin, small OLED displays that are fully flexible at CES 2013.
According to Bloomberg's sources, Samsung might be preparing the launch of one or even both of these phones for next year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, which typically takes place in late February. The phones, currently developed under the codename "Project Valley," will not be a part of Samsung's Galaxy S range.
Bloomberg also reiterated the recent rumor that Samsung might skip a number for its Galaxy Note phone, launching a Note 7 instead of a Note 6.

First smartphone with a night vision camera: Lumigon T3

At a time when smartphone companies are fighting for a bigger share of the pie by introducing new technology, Danish company Lumigon has unveiled its T3 device that has the world’s first night vision camera. The smartphone, which also have a 24-karat gold version, comes with a 4MP night vision camera with dual infrared flash that will allow you to take pictures in complete darkness.
The Lumigon T3 starts at $740 and is available on Lumigon’s website and through select dealers, The Verge reported on Monday. The phone has a marine-grade 316 stainless steel chassis and damage resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4. It is equipped with 4.8-inch super AMOLED display and runs on Android 6.0 (marshmallow). The device is powered by MediaTek Helio X10 2.2 GHz 64-bit-octa core CPU, 3GB RAM and 128GB internal memory.
Apart from 4MP night vision camera, T3 has a 13MP rear camera with dual tone flash, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), 5MP front camera. The T3 is a dust and water resistant device and comes with a 360-degree fingerprint sensor.

Norway Might Try To Ban Gas-Powered Cars

Norway might try to leave gasoline in the dust.
The Scandinavian country’s four major political parties reportedly agreed last week to ban the sale of gas- and diesel-powered cars by 2025, according to Electrek, citing a story in Norwegian paper Dagens Næringsliv. Though there’s some dispute about whether all parties actually support the proposal, it appears to be more ambitious than similar plans that have been considered recently in other parts of the world.
India and the Netherlands have both batted around proposals to stop sales of gas-powered cars in the coming decades. Neither country has enacted a plan to see this through yet. In addition, several U.S. states, including New York and California, have weighed banning sales of gas-fueled cars by 2050. In contrast, Norway would seek to phase out gas-powered car sales much sooner.
The country has a history of enthusiasm for electric cars. In 2013, Norway installed charging stations for electric vehicles from the popular manufacturer Tesla, before any other European country got around to it. Thanks in part to some of the world’s sweetest tax breaks for electric vehicles, Norway registered 50,000 electric cars in April, a full two years before it had planned to do so.
Now, nearly a quarter of all new cars hitting Norwegian roads are electric, and the country boasts the highest proportion of electric vehicles of any nation.
Over half of Norway’s energy needs are met using renewable power sources. Since charging an electric car requires drawing power from the national power grid, switching to exclusively electric cars in Norway could cut greenhouse gas emissions morethan doing so in, say, the U.S., where renewables currently make up only 13 percent of the energy mix.
Despite embracing renewables at home, Norway remains one of the world’s largest exporters of petroleum, and oil wealth has funded much of the country’s vigorous renewable energy program. But low oil prices are rocking the country’s petroleum industry, and Norway’s sovereign wealth fund has been divesting from fossil fuels in recent years.
It’s not clear whether all the country’s political parties are actually on board with a ban targeting gas-powered vehicle sales, however.
While the country’s two left-leaning parties confirmed their support for the plan, the two conservative parties denied agreeing to it, according to a report in Quartz. Per Sandberg, deputy leader of the country’s right-wing Progress Party, said the proposal was “not realistic.”
But the confusion didn’t stop Tesla CEO Elon Musk from congratulating Norway on a potential ban:
Just heard that Norway will ban new sales of fuel cars in 2025. What an amazingly awesome country. You guys rock!!

THINNEST PHONE EVER : SAMSUNG GALAXY A8

Samsung isn't synonymous with extra-thin smartphones -- that distinction usually goes to Chinese vendors like Gionee or Oppo. However, you may have to rethink that reputation very shortly. Samsung's as yet unannounced Galaxy A8 has just been approved by China's telecom regulator TENAA, and the Android smartphone is unquestionably Samsung's thinnest yet at just over 5.9mm (0.23 inches) thick. Suddenly, the 6.3mm Galaxy A7 seems downright chunky.
Not that you'll necessarily be clamoring to get one. This is strictly a mid-range handset with a 5.7-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen, an eight-core Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. Its biggest perks are the subtly-integrated 16-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel selfie cam and a healthy 3,050mAh battery. Moreover, the device might not show up in your neck of the woods. The Galaxy A8 going through testing at TENAA and the FCC only has China-centric LTE data, and the A-series phones haven't been readily available in the US so far. If you're absolutely determined to have the slimmest Samsung device you can get, though, you have something to look forward to in the near future.

A visual stunner :Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro review and specs

Lenovo’s Yoga series has become a category unto itself. Not only does it encompass the ultrabook but also the tablets segment. Yoga as the name implies, lets you arrange the ultrabook in around four modes. The Yoga series is in its third generation this time around and the Yoga 3 Pro is the flagship multi-mode ultrabook in the series.

One of the main conditions to fulfill, for a laptop to be categorised as an Ultrabook, is that it should be slim. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro fulfills this condition with aplomb, measuring just 12.8mm when closed. And it weighs just 1.19kg which makes it convenient to carry around in your backpack.
The other most interesting feature of the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro has to be its hinge. Considering the Yoga 3 Pro laptop goes all the way back, thereby giving you modes such as laptop, stand, tablet and tent, the hinge mechanism has employed around “813 individual pieces of aluminum and steel.” It seems to have certainly taken inspiration from metal watch bands.

The Yoga 3 Pro comes in three colours orange, silver and gold on the outside and black colour on the inside. Opening up the laptop reveals a textured, rubberised palm rest which covers the entire portion around the keypad. The texture has a great feel to it. The trackpad is located in the centre and has a single slab of clickable plastic. There aren’t any buttons or indicators on the top of the keypad.
Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro comes with the multi-mode branding which lets you set up the laptop in four different modes of use cases. It houses an Intel Core M 5Y70 processor which is a dual-core hyper threaded part, clocked at 1.1GHz with the Turbo frequency going up to 2.6GHz. Thanks to the low power processor, the Yoga 3 Pro does not have any fan cooling mechanism, another reason for its slim form factor. It comes with 8GB RAM and has a 256GB storage capacity.
There are a lot of software flourishes on the Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. For starters there is the Harmony settings app, which can be set to change display settings depending on the mode you set your Yoga 3 Pro in. For instance, if you switch to a reading mode, the display gets a warm tinge to reduce strain on your eyes.  ‘My Favourites’, section makes most frequently used apps easier to find. You also have certain applications which are Harmony compatible and you can optimise settings for the same.
The Yoga 3 Pro features JBL speakers which are sufficiently loud and clear for most use cases. Apart from this you also get utilities such as McAfee Livesafe, Amazon Kindle, Evernote, Lenovo Photo Master among others, pre-installed.
Display: 9/10
One of the high points of the Yoga 3 Pro is its display. At 3200 x 1800 pixels the 13.3-inch display looks gorgeous. You get an LED backlit LCD display with an IPS panel and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Viewing angles are great, the colours appear vibrant and one hardly sees any pixillation on the text. Website logos that aren’t high resolution will show some jaggies naturally. Black levels are pretty good.

In the Lagom.nl tests, the display performed well in most tests. The contrast test shows all the different bands of colours going from brightest to darkest. The white saturation test was one of the best I’ve seen on a laptop display, showing all the checkerboard boxes. Gradient banding test also shows a gradual change of colour from black to white. All in all a wonderful display.
Watching movies on the display is a joy, provided you have at least an HD quality movie. Upscaling standard definition content will show jaggies. The experience is best when you are watching a movie in a dark room, but you can also enjoy it with ambient lighting, just ensure that there aren’t any direct light sources behind you. The tent and stand modes are ideal for watching videos.
Performance: 6.5/10
Battery Life: 6/10
Considering this is an Intel Core M processor based ultrabook, one thing I was really looking forward to was a long lasting battery. The Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro houses a 4-cell 44Wh battery. But the battery life performance of the Lenovo Yoga Pro 3 was certainly not upto the mark. Getting a 3 hours 43 mins on high performance mode and 5 hours 14 mins on Balanced mode are definitely no indicators of ‘Epic Battery Life’ of around 7.2 hours as promised on its product page. For an ultrabook which comes with a low power processor, one really expects longer lasting battery. But if you cannot even pull in a day’s worth of usage without plugging in the charger, then that is just defeating the purpose.
Verdict and Price in India
Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro is a beautifully designed ultrabook and the slim form factor along with the light weight is a boon if you are the kinds who have to carry a laptop to work daily. The 3200 x  1800 pixel display is one of the best we have seen on a laptop. Touch response and using the Yoga 3 Pro in various modes, specially stand and tent mode for movies and presentations is really cool. In terms of performance, the Yoga 3 Pro can do most of the regular tasks such as surfing the web, watching HD movies, working on office suites, even working with Adobe Lightroom for photo editing. Now, only IF these factors appeal to you does it make sense to shell out Rs 1,14,990 for the Yoga 3 Pro.
But this is not a workhorse in the traditional sense of the word. You cannot do heavy lifting such as video editing. Granted this laptop is not meant for that kind of work. If you are planning to transcode video, again it will be really slow on this. The battery life, something which should have been at least the promised 7.2 hours, is nowhere close. That is the biggest drawback. The whole premise of using a low power processor such as the Core M is to have a long lasting battery.
